Post-Doctoral Opportunities in the Wang Lab

Your time as a post doc is extremely important in shaping your career - but more importantly, you as a scientist. The goal of the lab is to provide a stimulating environment in which everyone can realize their goals and grow as a scientist. Our lab is multi-disciplinary, providing a broad range of research areas and topics ranging from medicine to molecular biology and bioinformatics. We have PhDs and MDs from all over the world contributing to a diverse and multi-disciplinary work culture.

  • The lab is large enough to provide a stimulating atmosphere and a large portfolio of established techniques, but small enough for strong mentorship. Each postdoc will have one personal meeting per week in addition weekly lab meeting, and a biweekly seminar series in our Digestive and Liver Disease Research Center
  • Columbia University is leading in biomedical research (#1 healthcare institution in 2019 and #2 in 2020 by Nature Index). This strong academic environment provides opportunities for collaborations; a wealth of educational opportunities and almost daily lectures on interesting topics; as well as cutting-edge core services
  • The lab is well funded and will provide you with amazing opportunities during your postdoc
  • The majority of postdocs have been extremely successful, with a large number of high-level publications (most postdocs having 1-3 first author papers). Many postdocs have obtained grants during their postdoc and subsequently started their own research groups as independently funded PIs
  • Rigor and Reproducibility are important in our lab

Qualifications

  • The lab is open to PhDs and MDs alike
  • While the lab provides you with many opportunities, we expect a strong level of dedication and commitment in return
  • The minimum time for a postdoc is 2 years. While each project and postdoc is different, the 3rd postdoc year is usually the most productive time in the lab
  • Modern science is team science and many papers will involve collaborations - at the same time, each person will have their own project to be published as first author paper
  • We believe that we are most successful when work is fun
  • We believe that our science should be impactful and that quality beats quantity
  • The majority of postdocs will come with a postdoctoral fellowship. Postdocs bringing funding are always welcome
  • From time to time, there will be opportunities for unfunded postdocs
